MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan’s ambitions to close the gap on their title rivals were thwarted on Wednesday as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Bologna in a captivating Serie A.

Despite the draw, Inter remain just three points behind league leaders Napoli, albeit with a game in hand, keeping their title hopes alive. However, the result puts them under pressure from third-placed Atalanta, who are close behind with one point less having drawn their last three meetings.

The encounter also marked the end of the Nerazzurri’s impressive run of six consecutive league victories, leaving fans yearning for more consistency.

Bologna took the lead early in the match, asserting themselves in the 15th minute when Nikola Moro’s ambitious volley from outside the box took a decisive deflection from Santiago Castro, sending the ball into the back of the net, thus deceiving the Inter goalkeeper, Yann Sommer.

However, Inter responded quickly, with Denzel Dumfries equalizing just four minutes later. The dynamic Lautaro Martínez then turned things around for the Milan club just before half-time, scoring his first goal at the San Siro in over two months.

The second half saw Bologna refuse to fold, and they managed to equalize in the 64th minute thanks to Emil Holm, whose attempt was aided by a significant deflection.

With the thrilling action at the San Siro now behind them, Inter will need to quickly regroup and refocus as they push for the Serie A title, while Bologna will take confidence from their resilient performance.
