Minutes after the formalization of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, United States President-elect Donald Trump congratulated himself for his role, “without even being in the White House” .

“We have a deal!” Even before the officialization of the agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza by Israeli or Hamas officials, the President-elect of the United States Donald Trump welcomed the agreement for a truce and a return of hostages in Gaza.

“We have an agreement for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!”, the billionaire quickly wrote on the Truth Social platform that he owns. In a second, longer message, he congratulated himself and his team: “We have accomplished so much without even being in the White House.”

“This EPIC ceasefire agreement could only have been reached following our historic victory in November, as it showed the world that my administration would pursue peace and negotiate agreements to ensure the security of all Americans and our allies,” Donald Trump wrote again this Wednesday.

On January 8, he promised “hell” if an agreement was not reached before he came to power on January 20.

Many mediators

Donald Trump believes that “(his) national security team, through the special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff”, played a role in this favorable outcome of the conflict. He promises to “continue to promote peace” so that “Gaza NEVER becomes a refuge for terrorists again.”

The agreement between Israel, Hamas and Islamic Jihad is the result of negotiations carried out since mid-2024, under the aegis of intermediaries such as Qatar and Egypt.

Outgoing President Joe Biden’s administration also played a role – difficult to estimate at this point. The role of the elected president is no more quantifiable at this stage, he having only been able to resume a more or less concrete role since his re-election in November.

“We are on the verge of seeing a proposal, which I presented in detail several months ago, finally come to fruition,” Joe Biden declared on January 13, thus underlining the role of his camp in the negotiations.
