When she was in the House in the previous legislature, Maggie De Block remembers that the food available was not always the healthiest. “At Parliament, we ate sandwiches and soup, but it wasn’t necessarily fresh. So I brought my meals which I heated in the microwave. Now that I’m retired, I prepare everything myself, with unprocessed ingredients.”

If her approach is reminiscent of Japanese diets, Maggie De Block tells us that it is not a copy. “No, it’s a diet that I invented. I adapted my diet to my needs, eliminating excesses. And I still allow myself to drink a glass of alcohol in the evening, but never beer. And lots of water of course”

In addition to visible weight loss, Maggie De Block notices improvements in her quality of life. She swims three times a week for over an hour. And had to change her wardrobe. “I donated my old clothes to the CPAS”.

A source of inspiration

This transformation has not gone unnoticed. “Yes, people see that I have lost weight”she adds “Some tell me that my example gives them courage to do the same, especially slightly older women.”

Retired from politics and medicine, Maggie De Block does not intend to dive back into the bath. “When I read articles about current politics, I’m glad I stopped”she explains to us. “I remain affiliated with the VLD. But when you leave, you really have to leave.”

Finally, Maggie De Block insists on the importance of maintaining a balance, even when there are deviations. “I don’t stop myself from partying, but the next day I eat lighter: soup and vegetables. It’s a question of compensating intelligently.”
