The nominations for BAFTA Awards 2025 were unveiled early this afternoon in London. The papal thriller Conclave and the detective musical Emilia Perez are in the lead with 12 and 11 nominations respectively.

The Los Angeles fires have forced most major US awards shows to postpone their nominations or extend voting periods, but BAFTA continued to fight. The nominations were mainly made for the screenplays, with the films The Brutalist, Anora, Wicked et A Perfect Stranger who also achieved good results. British and Irish comedy drama Kneecap was also critically acclaimed with six nominations.
Among the nominees for the Best Film award are: Anora, The Brutalist, A Perfect Stranger, Conclave et Emilia Perez. This year’s Oscar race has been described as open. Each of the five contenders for BAFTA for the Best Film award has a chance of winning. But the race has now largely focused around these five nominees, alongside the musical Wickedthe absence of which in the list of best films may raise eyebrows, particularly in the United States where the film is considered a sure candidate for the Oscar for Best Picture. The Brutalist is, it seems, the favorite which stands out a little more than the others while its star Adrien Brody could even get his second Oscar.
Moreover, Dune: Part Two received seven nominations today, while the gothic thriller Nosferatu got five after receiving no nominations at the Golden Globes. The nominations for BAFTA for Best Actress are Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofia Gascon, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore et Saoirse Ronanwhile the nominations for Best Actor are Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Grant et Sebastian Stan.
Finally, Pixar et Vice-Versa 2 will have to face The Wild Robot (DreamWorks Animation), Flow (Sacrebleu Productions) et Wallace and Gromit: The Palm of Vengeance (Aardman Animations).
