Scheduled for February 16, the 78th BAFTA Awards ceremony rewards the foil of British and world cinema, a veritable antechamber of the Oscars. While the ceremony has just revealed the list of its nominations for the year 2025, Number takes stock.
Conclave et Emilia Perez dominate the nominations
While the 2025 Golden Globes have only just ended, the BAFTA Film Awards – an acronym for the British Academy Film and Television Arts – are preparing to reward the best of British and world cinema.
For their 78th ceremony, the BAFTA 2025 are banking on an audience of luminaries of the seventh art, who had already caused a sensation during the season of American cinema ceremonies – currently disrupted by the fires which are currently ravaging California.
Without many surprises, Emilia Perezthe crazy musical comedy orchestrated by Jacques Audiardrises to the top of the BAFTA 2025 nominations, with eleven citations. The feature film had already impressed at the Golden Globes with four trophies won.
But the greatest number of nominations (12 in total) goes to the papal fresco ofEdward Berger, Conclavewith a Ralph Fiennes torn by his beliefs. The list continues from The Brutalist, Anora, Wicked or even Dune: part two.
The BAFTA Film Awards, the ceremony rewarding the best of British cinema
In short, the nominations of BAFTA 2025 surprise little, because they are in synergy with those of the Golden Globes. Only the absences of Nicole Kidman et Denzel Washingtonrespectively in the categories of best actress and best supporting actor, may surprise – even though these two actors had both pocketed a nomination at the Golden Globes.
On the other hand, the film Kneecap of the Irish Rich Peppiatt triumph with no less than six nominations – a first in the history of the BAFTAs for a first film.
Thus, the 2025 BAFTA Awards could well reshuffle the Oscar nominations cards – the date of announcement of the nominations has been delayed. Anteroom to the high mass of world cinema, the ceremony will bring together the foil of the seventh art in London, on February 16. For the second time in a row, the actor Doctor Who, David Tennantwill serve as presenter for the evening. The die is cast…
