To guarantee the resources of the army and civil protection in the long term, the Federal Council wants to attract more women. The information day should be compulsory for them. This requires a modification of the Constitution, and therefore a popular yes.

Young women could thus learn about the possibilities and chances offered to them by the army and civil protection. For the Federal Council, they would thus be more likely to perform voluntary service. Furthermore, the approach “will advance equality of opportunity”.
On Wednesday, the government also took note of the two variants studied to ensure the numbers of the army and civil protection in the long term. The first is the obligation to serve in security. Only men would be required to do so.
The second option is needs-based and women would be forced to serve to supply the army or civil defense. Civil service would not be changed.
