A fire broke out in a building in the center of Visp (VS) very early this Wednesday morning. Around twenty people had to be evacuated and two were transported to the city hospital for checks.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., the Valais cantonal police dispatch center was notified of a fire in a building located on Bahnhofstrasse in Visp.
Damaged attics
The intervention forces were able to bring the fire under control around 4:30 a.m. “The attic was damaged by the fire,” Stève Léger, spokesperson for the Valais cantonal police, told Keystone-ATS.
Two people were taken to Visp hospital for a check-up after being exposed to smoke gases. For safety reasons, around twenty residents of the building, as well as some neighbors, were evacuated. They were able to return to their accommodation in the morning. Other people who have had to leave their homes will gradually be able to return to their homes over the next few hours or days depending on the case.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the fire.
