The latest toll from the fires in Los Angeles increased further on Tuesday January 14, 2025 with 24 deaths, 12,000 buildings destroyed, more than 100,000 people evacuated and fires which are still not under control.
What caused the fire in the Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles? To answer this question, American investigators are combing the Skull Rock sector. It is precisely in this steep area that, on January 7, young hikers were caught in a fire. They film their escape. They are among the very first to detect smoke. Shortly after, from a house on the other side of the canyon, a resident filmed images of the smoke and flames. In this area of Skull Rock, he explains that he had already seen it just six days earlier, a moment that he immortalized in a photo on January 1st.
Is this the resumption of a fire dating from New Year’s Eve? In any case, on January 1, the fire, possibly caused by fireworks, destroyed an area of Skull Rock. The coincidence did not escape the responding firefighters. “The fire started very close to where there was the fire on New Year’s Day”explains a Los Angeles firefighter.
A fire that smoldered for six days before starting again due to violent winds. The hypothesis is plausible, according to experts. The American authorities are not making any comments at this stage.
