A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be reached soon. Hostage families are torn between hope and anguish. Update on the situation Tuesday January 14, 2025.
466 days: for more than 15 months, Israelis have been detained by Hamas. For families of hostages gathered Tuesday, January 14 in Jerusalem, there is finally a glimmer of hope with a release agreement within reach.
In Doha, Israel and Hamas are reportedly close to reaching a three-phase deal with a 42-day ceasefire initially. Then, the release of 33 hostages in exchange for the release of a thousand Palestinian prisoners, and finally, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops.
For US President Joe Biden, the beginning of the end has never been closer. “Palestinians deserve to live in peace and choose their future. Israel has the right to peace and security. The hostages and their families must be reunited.”, he declared.
In Israel, not everyone is happy. The Israeli far right is against it. Some hostage families loudly demonstrated their concern and opposition on Monday evening, January 13.
