Now on the verge of the playoffs, Geoff Molson is encouraged by his team’s performance.
“We had a difficult start to the season, but from the start of December we started playing well as a team and that’s great to see. We are very happy. We are in the mix and I hope that will continue,” he said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
Geoff Molson also took advantage of the moment to praise the work of his close guard; Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton and Martin St-Louis.
“We are very happy with the progress we have made together over the last three years. I have no doubt that this will continue,” he said.
Since the Kings’ visit to Quebec last fall, rumors have been strong regarding a return of the Canadian to the Videotron Center for a preseason match. If everything is not yet completely put together, everything indicates that Quebec will be on the Habs’ preparatory calendar.
“We’re not far. We hope to play a preseason game here against Ottawa next year. It is not finalized yet, but it is very likely that we will be here next year,” he stressed.
Geoff Molson also reiterated his openness to supporting the return of an NHL team to Quebec. “Open, but even more supportive. If the opportunity ever presents itself, we are here to support it.”
From a business point of view, seeing a second team establish itself in the Quebec market does not seem to bother him.
“Yes, our convenience store is fine, but I would say we can live with two convenience stores,” he confided.
