Moscow (VNA) – Regarding the expectations related to the visit of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Vietnam, especially regarding possible cooperation in the field of construction of nuclear power plants, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said said that if the two sides reached an agreement on this project, it would be a main positive outcome of the visit.
This is what Minister Sergei Lavrov declared to the correspondent of the Vietnamese Information Agency (VNA) in Russia, during a press conference organized on January 14 in Moscow to take stock of the diplomatic activities of the Russia in 2024.
In addition, Sergey Lavrov stressed that bilateral relations will include more joint projects, in addition to the project to modernize and improve the efficiency of the Vietnam Tropical Center, as well as oil and gas joint ventures such as Rusviet, Vietsovpetro and Soviet Petro, which worked well in the territories of both countries. Nuclear energy is a promising area, he said.
The head of Russian diplomacy reiterated that President Vladimir Putin had stressed that cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the field of nuclear energy would not be limited to the construction of power plants. It would also include the creation of a new industry, training of human resources, development of scientific personnel working in the facilities, as well as many other aspects. This energy project would add a cutting-edge technological component to cooperation between the two countries, he added.
Furthermore, Sergei Lavrov affirmed that Moscow appreciates Vietnam’s willingness to provide a safe place for negotiations between Russia and partners, particularly regarding the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine.
The year-end press conference, an annual event led by the Russian Foreign Minister, brought together nearly 200 Russian and foreign journalists for this edition.- VNA
