Major airline pilot reveals how much he earns for each flight

An airline pilot has revealed how much he earns for a flight and let’s face it, it’s quite surprising!

Garrett is an airline pilot and he likes to talk to Internet users about his work through his YouTube channel.

Three months ago, the airline pilot posted a video in which he explained how much he gets paid to fly.

First, when it comes to his hourly wage, Garrett says he gets paid $213.87 per hour.

This hourly wage may seem attractive to many people, but Garrett reminded that pilots cannot get out of bed and climb into the cockpit of their aircraft and then fly. The pilot notably recalled that he sometimes spends a lot of time waiting between flights and that he is often very far from his home.

The pilot does not hide in his video that he likes empty flights. An empty leg flight consists of a flight where a pilot travels as a passenger to get to their destination. As an example, after flying empty-handed from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, and then flying back as a pilot, Garrett earned 1 $556.

Garett likes this route because it allows him to work on other tasks during the empty leg.

When Garrett talks about waiting times which can be very long, we understand very well what he means when he takes for example a flight between JFK airport in New York and Phoenix in Arizona where the stopover can be lasting 24 hours! In other words, he flies for about 10 hours, but he spends almost 40 hours “away from base”, which is “not the best value for money”.

Finally, Garrett remarked that if he became captain, he could make a lot more money.
