Will your LG Smart TV receive the update to webOS 25? And if so, when will it be available? All the answers to these questions are in our article.
During CES 2025, LG announced that its new television models belonging to the OLED and QNED ranges will be released with webOS 25 preinstalled. The new version of the manufacturer’s in-house operating system will also be made available on old references of the brand launched in recent years, we learn.
LG shared to the media FlatpanelsHD a deployment schedule for webOS 25. All its OLED and QNED Smart TVs from 2024 will receive an update between the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The release window is identical for the 2023 models, which have been transitioning to webOS 24 since the end of 2024, with deployment continuing into early 2025.
webOS 25, an update with AI in focus
For 2022 TVs, not all devices will be served. OLED Smart TVs, QNED 8K (not 4K, therefore) and StandbyME Go are also in the process of transitioning to webOS 24 and can claim webOS 2025 for the fourth quarter 2025 or first quarter 2026. For 2021 models, only TVs in the StandbyME range will receive webOS 2025, in the first quarter of 2026. webOS 24 will arrive during the first quarter of 2025.
Besides optimizations, bug fixes, and some interface changes, webOS 25 should not bring much to French users in terms of new features. For now, LG is placing a lot of emphasis on fonctions d’IA which will be introduced with this version. But some of them are currently reserved for the United States and South Korea.
An AI search will, for example, allow you to ask questions to obtain recommended content to watch. AI Concierge will be based on users’ viewing history to highlight content that they might like. An image generator is also planned, while AI will be used in the image and sound profiles of LG TVs. We do not know if only the new televisions from 2025 will be entitled to all these new features, or if older webOS 25 compatible models will also support them.
