It was announced that Mabel and others would replace Lily Allen during the Do you miss me? podcast, while the latter takes a mental health break.
The news comes as the singer and actress – who hosts the podcast alongside her friend Miquita Oliver – revealed in last week’s episode that she would be temporarily taking a step back from her work commitments to focus on her mental health.
On the podcast, Allen explained that she was currently “struggling to be interested in anything” and was “definitely not in a good place.”
“I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I spiraled and spiraled and spiraled, and it got out of control,” she continued, recalling that she had to let go of the events earlier due to circumstances. She added: “I just can’t focus on anything other than the pain I’m feeling. And it’s really very difficult.
It was not revealed where she would focus on her well-being, although she confirmed that she had not relapsed and would not be going to rehab.
It has now been confirmed that during her absence from the show, musician Mabel will step in and take on temporary hosting duties.
On January 16 and 20, the artist will replace Allen. Mabel also has a close bond with Oliver, with the latter’s mother, Andi, being Mabel’s godmother. The two also have a close relationship, with Podcast today reporting that Mabel and Miquita once called each other “sisters”.
Additionally, Rizzle Kicks star Jordan Stephens and comedian Simon Amstell will next fill in for Allen during his absence. The former will feature in episodes airing January 23 and 27, while Amstell will co-host with Oliver on January 30 and February 3.
Elsewhere in last week’s episode Do you miss me?Allen hit back at “vicious rumors” about her relationship with her husband, Stranger Things actor David Harbour. One in particular that she rejected was that he found her “in a crack den, surrounded by men.”
It was reported in December that the couple had separated and ended their four-year marriage, although this has not been confirmed.
This wasn’t the first time the “LDN” singer opened up about her mental health on the show. Towards the end of last year, she told listeners that she had “stopped eating” and was “not in a good place mentally”. She also suggested that her ADHD might play a role, as it can sometimes prevent her body and mind from bonding properly.
Before that, she had spoken candidly about her sobriety and said in April that she could “lose everything” if she drank alcohol again. She struggled with excessive drinking and drug addiction in her youth.
Allen and Oliver are ready to bring their Do you miss me? podcast to a live audience for the first time in March, and as of this writing, it seems likely that Allen will be back on the show by then.
