The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been accused by Justine Bateman of being ‘disaster tourists’, after they were seen consoling victims of the devastating Los Angeles fires.
A scathing review. Justine Bateman, best known for her roles in the sitcom “Sacred Family”, violently criticized Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, on social networks, while the latter were photographed at the Pasadena Convention Center, transformed into a center of evacuation for catastrophic fires in Los Angeles.
“Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a disgusting “photoshoot” they did. They “take a look at the damage”? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here, they are tourists. Disaster tourists,” wrote the actress who lives in the Hollywood Hills, themselves affected by forest fires.
In a Fox News show on Friday, January 10, Meghan Markle was filmed distributing food packages in a kiosk, and comforting a fire victim. The young woman also spoke with Doug Goodwin, an Altadena resident who lost his home in the Eaton fire.
The couple supported by the mayor of Pasadena
Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, the couple have lived in Montecito, an area about 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Los Angeles, with their two children. They are currently at risk of having to be evacuated and could face power outages.
Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo said the couple visited the center anonymously Friday morning and that their public gratitude to emergency responders “really boosted the morale of the first responders” during their visit. “We visited the Rose Bowl command post and people were excited to see them,” he said, adding that they were “great people” with “great personalities.”
The Duke and Duchess supported their neighbors by opening their home to evacuated loved ones and running donations through their Archewell Foundation, according to People. “In recent days, wildfires have ravaged neighborhoods across Southern California and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers and more, affecting tens of thousands of people from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been declared,” we can read in a press release published on their official website.
