Noah Cates scored a double and the Philadelphia Flyers came from behind to defeat the Florida Panthers 4-3 at the Wells Fargo Center.

The game started off badly for the Flyers (19-20-5) with Sam Reinhart’s fifth shorthanded goal this season, 7:59 into the opening period. Uvis Balinskis doubled the Panthers’ lead (25-16-3) less than two minutes later with a weak shot that Samuel Ersson would no doubt like to see again, but the goalkeeper recovered well and ended the game with 20 stops.

Garnet Hathaway scored the only goal of the second period and Cates tied the game 2-2 in the opening minutes of the final period, on a five-man attack, after pounced on Travis Sanheim’s return shot into the heart of the enclave.

Reinhart restored the visitors’ lead shortly after, also on the power play, and Morgan Frost took advantage of another power play to score his 10th goal and tie the score after just 5:59 of play.

Cates settled the debate at 14:09 after crossing the ice, mocking Aleksander Barkov entering the zone and beating Sergei Bobrovsky with a beautiful backhand feint. The young forward now has 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in his last 16 games.

The Florida netminder conceded four goals on 29 shots.
