A mother and her two daughters killed in a house fire in Pas-de-Calais

Three people, a mother and her two daughters, died this Monday morning in a house fire in Wingles.

Two other children aged 11 and 12 were rescued.

A terrible drama in the early morning. A 37-year-old mother and her two daughters aged 9 and 16 died this Monday in a house fire in Wingles, north of (Pas-de-). Two boys from the family, aged around 11 and 12, got out of the house with the help of a neighbor, according to our information. Evacuees “in relative urgency”according to an officer from the departmental fire and rescue operational center (Codis), they were hospitalized in Lens.

“The fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. The upstairs was completely engulfed in flames. A neighbor was woken up by a noise, an explosion. He went to get a ladder and pulled out two boys who were at the first floor window” , reported Sébastien Messent, mayor of Wingles, to AFP. The father had already left for work at the time of the incident.

Numerous findings and investigations are underway

The fire, which broke out shortly after 4 a.m., was brought under control shortly after 8 a.m. “It will be up to the police investigation to determine the causes of the fire,” the mayor told AFP. Around fifty firefighters were deployed, according to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.

“As it stands, the findings and investigations are in progress since it was initially necessary to secure the premises before the investigators entered. It is too early to have answers, pending the various expertises, findings and collections of testimonies”insists Virginie Valton, deputy public prosecutor of Béthune, contacted this Monday morning by TF1info.
