Wojciech Szczesny will miss FC Barcelona’s next match after receiving a red card during the Spanish Super Cup, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Barcelona goalkeeper was sent off in the 54th minute of the match against Real Madrid (5-2) in the Spanish Super Cup final for a foul on Mbappé, who was heading towards goal. Referee Jesús Gil Manzano issued the red card after reviewing the footage.
According to the RFEF Disciplinary Code, suspensions received during the Spanish Super Cup apply to subsequent matches in national tournaments. This rule has been amended to prevent players from escaping sanctions if they cannot participate in the competition.
As a result, Szczesny will not be available for FC Barcelona’s next match against Real Betis in the Copa del Rey round of 16, scheduled for January 15.
