Fallout, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS… fires in Los Angeles put many series on hold

Season 2 of Fallout had to stop filming because of the fires in Los Angeles, and she is not the only one…

Since Tuesday January 7, 2025, the city of Los Angeles is in the grip of violent fires. Beyond the numerous infrastructures swept away by the flames, a new report shared on January 12 shows 24 deaths. Caused by hot, dry winds, these devastating fires make the actions of firefighters very complicated.

Beyond being the second most populous city in the United States, Los Angeles is also the capital of American cinema, where most of the studios are located. Although many filming takes place in Hollywood and other areas of the metropolis, the situation forced certain productions to shut down. Including one of the most anticipated series of the year.

It’s hot

Fallout on hold, but not only that…

Indeed, according to Variety, season 2 of Falloutthe adaptation of Bethesda’s video game by Amazon Prime Video, had to stop filming. This had started before the end of year holidays, and was to resume in January, before the natural disaster changed Amazon’s plans. The post-apocalyptic series by Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Walton Goggins is mainly produced in the Santa Clarita area.

FilmLAthe agency responsible for filming permits in the city, has suspended many series, including in areas not directly affected by the flames, such as Fallout. There are 2 main causes for this: the harmfulness of fire smoke, and maintaining the necessary human resources for emergency services. Here is the press release from FilmLA :

Grey’s Anatomy is also affected

“Staffing resources usually available to support film production may not be available during this state of emergency. […] The LA County Fire Department has requested that all filming permits in the Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge and Pasadena communities be revoked. Other revocations are possible. »

Already affected by a tight schedule, the release of season 2 of Fallout should undoubtedly be postponed, especially since the situation is still far from being under control. While the relocation of this type of production has increased in recent years (notably because of lower costs abroad), the environmental crisis hitting California is clearly putting Hollywood in danger.

Apart from Falloutit can be noted that Grey’s Anatomy, Hacks, Suits: LA, Abbott Elementary or even NCIS and its derivative NCIS : Origins are affected by these interruptions, just like certain talk shows, Jimmy Kimmel Live has After Midnight. The majority of them hope to resume this week.
