Former captain of the Danish selection who played for LOSC, defender Simon Kjaer is hanging up his boots at 35.

Simon Kjaer says stop. In an interview given to the channel 2 Sports the 35-year-old defender announced that he was ending his playing career. He had been without a club since the end of his contract at AC Milan, where he played his last match on May 25, 2024 in the Italian championship.

Kjaer, a renowned central defender, has long worn the captain’s armband of the Danish selection (132 matches, 5 goals), with whom he reached the semi-finals of the Euro in 2021. That year, he is ranked 18th in the Ballon d’Or and also received a UEFA award for helping to save the life of his teammate, Christian Eriksen, who fell ill during the match.

Kjaer had revealed himself at Palermo, Wolfsburg and AS Roma, before a more difficult period and a rebound at (2013-15). Having played for Fenerbahce and Sevilla FC, the Dane finished his career at the top at AC Milan, where he contributed to a Serie A title in the 2021-22 season.
