Joseph Aoun begins consultations to appoint a Prime Minister

Consultations begin this Monday for the new Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. Objective: appoint a Prime Minister to form the government.

These consultations began with a meeting with the vice-president of Parliament, Elias Abu Saab according to the official ANI agency, reported by AFP.

Among the names mentioned for the position, reserved for a Sunni Muslim, are the head of the interim government, Najib Mikati and the president judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Nawaf Salam.

MP and businessman Fouad Makhzoumi was also in the running, but he announced his withdrawal in favor of judge Salam.

Note that these consultations are a constitutional obligation within the framework of the confessional power-sharing system in Lebanon.
