An octogenarian loses her life in a fire in Celles

The Picardy Wallonia emergency services were alerted at 9:35 a.m. that a release of smoke had been spotted by a resident in a home on rue Leclercqz in the village of Celles. Coming from Tournai, a ladder truck, a pumper, a tanker, an ambulance, an SMUR and a command vehicle were dispatched to the site.

When first responders arrived, smoke was coming from the building. Inside the house, SMUR emergency workers found the lifeless body of a woman. Aged 86, living alone, the victim died after breathing smoke. The octogenarian was supposed to go to the polling station this Sunday morning when she was intoxicated.
