For its first match of 2025 at home, Paris Saint-Germain hosted AS Saint-Etienne, at the end of the 17th day of Ligue 1. Despite the fact that they had made the match easy by scoring 2 goals before the half hour of play, the Parisians again showed ineffectiveness against the goals afterwards, and saw the Stéphanois come back to 2-1 (see the full video summary). Despite everything, the Red and Blue won against the Greens transformed by their coach Eirik Horneland, who spoke to the microphones of DAZN at the end of the meeting:
Horneland: “It was difficult to go in at halftime with the score 2-0”
What did you do with this team?
We started the first half well. We created a lot of things. Then they found solutions by changing sides a lot. We ran after them a lot and lost possession of the ball. We managed to reconnect with each other in the second half. We had some very good moments and we were much more direct at times. It was difficult going into half-time with a score of 2-0 and we came back with good intentions. We wanted to score until the end.
Tonight you lost against the best team in the championship. How will you prepare for the next match?
All matches are important in the situation we are in, we have to fight for every point. We’ll have to be even better next week because it’s at home.
