Inter Milan, winner in Venice 1-0, temporarily came back to one point behind leader Naples on Sunday during the 20th day of the Italian Championship which allowed Genoa to achieve its first home victory of the season against Parma (1-0).

Inter digested its cruel defeat last Monday in the final of the Italian Super Cup against its great rival, AC Milan (3-2) after leading 2-0.

Simone Inzaghi’s team suffered against poorly ranked Venice: they were content with a single goal from Matteo Darmian (16th), which allowed them to secure a sixth victory in a row in Serie A.

“All matches are difficult in this championship, but this victory is a good way to turn the page on the derby lost in the Super Cup”Darmian insisted.

This match saw Benjamin Pavard, who entered in the 75th minute, make his return to competition after a month and a half of absence due to an injury to his left thigh (strained biceps femoris).

With its 43 points, Inter, the reigning champion who has played one match less, is back on the heels of Napoli who face Verona on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.).

In Genoa, Patrick Vieira is waking up Genoa which went from 13th to 11th place with 23 points.

For the first time this season, the Rossoblu fans were able to celebrate a victory in their stadium against promoted Parma, beaten by a goal from Dane Morten Frendrup in the 65th minute.

“We had a great match from the first to the 90th minute, everyone had been waiting for this victory for 233 days and we achieved it after a great match against a tough opponent,” rejoiced Vieira.

Since the arrival of the former French international in mid-November, Genoa, which has just been bought by Romanian businessman Dan Sucu, has conceded only one defeat in the league and scored 13 points in eight days.
