MADRID – Victorious (1-0) at home against Osasuna, Antoine Griezmann’s Atlético Madrid scored a 14th consecutive success in all competitions on Sunday and took the lead in the Spanish championship ahead of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Uninspired offensively, Atlético (1st, 44 points) provided the essentials by winning once again by the smallest of margins thanks to a goal from their summer recruit Julian Alvarez (55th, 1-0) on a corner played in two stages by Griezmann and headed by Clément Lenglet.

This 14th victory in a row, a record in the club’s history, allows the Colchoneros to overtake their rivals and neighbors Real (2nd, 43 points), currently in Saudi Arabia to play the Spanish Super Cup final against Barça (3rd, 38 points).

Often in the shadow of the two giants, the rojiblanco club, ambitious this summer with in particular the recruitments of Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth, Conor Gallagher and Robin Le Normand, is asserting itself a little more as a candidate for the title after a 2023-2024 season disappointing.

Once again decisive, Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring at the start of the game (8th) by cutting off a cross from Argentinian Nahuel Molina with his arm, but his goal was logically refused.
