While rain, snow and floods were present this week in the Oise, causing damage in the northwest, it is now time to take stock. With strong expectations from the people concerned, who will have to wait a few weeks: recognition of the state of natural disaster. A step facilitating the intervention of insurance from which the people of Creillo have just benefited.
In 2024, the city was affected twice: the first for mudslides on February 27 and 28, the last, at the end of December, concerning the floods of October 17. The victims have until January 23 to officially declare the damage.
The southern capital Oise was not the only one concerned: Mareuil-sur-Ourcq, in Valois, on the border with Aisne, has also just obtained recognition for similar incidents that occurred on October 12 and 13. As for Lagny-le sec, floods and mudslides caused damage on October 12 and 13.
Sometimes discreet but heavy damage for residents
The mayor of Lagny-le-Sec, Didier Doucet, underlines the importance of this recognition. “From the moment you have a natural disaster order, this greatly facilitates the procedures for compensation from insurance companies. » The municipality quickly informed residents via emails, posters and its website. Several areas were particularly affected, including RD84, rue des Fossés and avenue du Parc.
The damage mainly concerned flooded cellars and mudslides which, among other things, swept away a drinking water pipe. “We had to intervene urgently to restore the water, which our service provider was able to do quickly,” specifies the mayor. A municipal building was also affected. “These are not spectacular floods, but they remain very annoying for those who experience them,” he specifies.
Creil: traders and local residents relieved
In Creil, “it’s a relief for all the businesses and residents concerned,” explains the mayor, Sophie Dhoury-Lehner. A palpable feeling among those first affected, particularly in the areas of rue de la République, place du 8-Mai and rue Jean-Jaurès.
Several communication channels have been activated to inform the population. Flooded cellars and material damage to merchants are the most visible, but public infrastructure has also suffered with the rupture of pipes which are currently being analyzed by the service provider Suez.
Crucial compensation for disaster victims
The victims therefore have 30 days from the publication of the decree from the Oise prefecture, which took place on December 24.
In Oise, the year 2024 was marked by a series of exceptional bad weather: 58 natural disaster orders were published, concerning 52 municipalities. For the residents of Lagny-le-Sec, Creil and Mareuil-sur-Ourcq, this recognition from the State is important to turn the page on these events which disrupted their daily lives.
