Saturday January 11, in the middle of the afternoon, a gas leak was detected at a refrigeration compressor at the Place d’Armes shopping center in Lamentin, Martinique. Several firefighters were mobilized to manage a temporary evacuation of some 300 customers and the 70 agents who were on duty. Results: 4 people were inconvenienced, but not seriously according to the emergency services.

The entire shopping center and the Place d’Armes shopping arcade in Lamentin had to temporarily stop all activity this Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the middle of the afternoon.
This temporary evacuation occurred following a gas leak emanating from a defective refrigeration compressor which exploded on the floor of the hypermarket according to emergency services.
They were called to the scene around 3 p.m. to help police and security officers manage the exit of around 300 customers and around 70 service agents present on the site.
It is a gas which is odorless but which can cause headaches, vomiting… So we took care of 4 victims who were seen by the SAMU doctor and we carried out readings in the within the center, but the results were negative.

At the end of this intervention, which mobilized around twenty men, the commercial complex was able to reopen its spaces to the public.
