The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, called during a working session with technicians of the Tunisian National Railway Company, yesterday, Friday, to develop an urgent rescue plan no later than January 16, 2025 to improve the state of readiness of the fleet and provide practical solutions in order to accelerate maintenance operations while waiting to obtain the necessary credits to support the fleet with equipment for transporting people and goods in the medium term.
The minister confirmed, according to a press release published by the ministry on Saturday, that irregularities were recorded during his visit to the company’s maintenance workshops, in particular the lack of effective internal coordination between the different technical units and the central workshops. and the absence of an effective information system that enables monitoring, data analysis, evaluation and informed decision-making.
During the session, attended by the CEO of the Tunisian Rapid Rail Network Company and the authorized administrator of the Tunisian Railway Company, he recommended the need to carry out a precise diagnosis of the equipment and determine the condition of locomotives, with the aim of determining the priority of their maintenance, while governing the management of available equipment and the stock of spare parts.
He appreciated the progress of work in the workshops specializing in train maintenance operations of the high-speed rail network and considered it a positive point in the field of maintenance for the National High-Speed Train Company, calling to preserve this achievement in terms of working methods, infrastructure and organization.
The Minister called on employees of the National Railway Company to demonstrate responsibility towards the citizen who suffers from the drop in the level of services and to make their expectations the first concern.
He said that the critical situation the company is currently experiencing and the financial and structural difficulties it is experiencing do not prevent it from committing to making exceptional efforts to improve the readiness indicators of its fleet, develop and rationalize its material and human resources.
He considered that this institution is an important link in the chain of construction of the national State and that it has the elements of success which motivate it to rise and fully play its role to serve the citizen within the system. of mass public transport, more particularly the rail transport system for people and goods, which remains a strategic choice for the State and a fundamental pillar of development.
It should be noted that the Minister of Transport carried out, yesterday, Friday, an unannounced inspection visit to a number of technical units affiliated with the National Railway Company, before supervising the working session. He inspected the Farhat Hached warehouse, which is used for the regular maintenance of long-distance trains and freight transportation, and the high-speed rail network workshops warehouse, which is used for the maintenance of network trains high-speed rail.
The minister visited the Sidi Fathallah workshops, specializing in major maintenance operations and occasional repairs of locomotives and passenger cars on long-distance lines, freight locomotives, and the maintenance of equipment for the various units.
