Seven departments, including Eure, were kept on orange flood alert by Météo France on Friday January 10. In Gisors (Eure), water rose in the streets, impacting residents and traders.
Friday January 10, circulate in the streets of downtown Gisors was a difficult and even perilous mission(New window). The Epte is in flood and the water has continued to rise, leaving the residents helpless. Water seeped everywhere and invaded businesses. For a trader, it is impossible to assess the damage, but he fears having to carry out major work. “All the display furniture was made to measure in October”he laments.
In the neighboring bar, the managers tried to anticipate with sandbags but quickly found themselves overwhelmed. A little further away, with water up to his knees, a resident was surprised. He had just moved in and had left his things in the garage. “It went up very quickly. (…) I lost three quarters of what I had”he explains. The peak of the flood was reached during the day but the level should only start to fall overnight. Météo France calls for caution in the department.
