In France, seven departments were placed on alert on Friday January 10, mainly in Normandy, where many roads are submerged.
In Gisors (Eure), Friday January 10, residents have to walk on planks to get around. The Epte is in flood and the water continues to rise. Municipal agents put sandbags to protect business fronts. “They still announce 60 cm more. If it happens here (…) it’s over”worries a trader. In the urban area of Caen (Calvados), the roads have completely disappeared and the fields are submerged.
In Brittany, the Vilaine is in flood. In Guichen (Ille-et-Vilaine), the river has almost reached the top of a bridge. Dominique Delamarre, the mayor, is monitoring developments in real time. “We have triggered level 2, which means that we are supporting our traders this morning, we are bringing them materials”he explains. Firefighters have started reconnaissance operations in the Guipry-Messac sector (Ille-et-Vilaine). The peak of the flood is expected in the afternoon.
