He suspected that this was going to happen… But Emmanuel Castel still blames the blow. His restaurant, La Potinièrelocated on the banks of the river, in Clécy, in Normandy Switzerland, in Calvados, finds itself with its feet in the water: “There is about fifty centimeters of water.”
Announced a few days ago, the flood of the Orne reached its peak this Thursday, late in the morning. After the heavy rains of recent days, the water rose very quickly and the river came out of its nest. In the area, up to a meter of water infiltrated certain houses or establishments. The restaurateur had prepared for the event: “We saw the water rising as the days passed. On Sunday, we came to raise the furniture and equipment as a precaution and there, we are waiting to be able to access it again.”
Indeed, Emmanuel Castel no longer wants to relive the nightmare he experienced last year. His restaurant had already been flooded, causing significant damage inside and outside the structure: “It was complicated. We had 40 centimeters of water and we lost a lot of things. There, we knew it could happen, so we came to protect what we could. Last year, it was Suddenly, the water rose quickly. We didn’t expect it. It was fatal and fortunately we were compensated by our insurer.explains the latter.
The restaurant owner is no longer insured
Emmanuel Castel had time to organize this time, but he is very worried: “Last year was the first time we were flooded and we were compensated, so it went well compared to the damage we had”. Except this time, he won’t be able to count on his insurer: “We had a small clause in our contract which stipulated that we were insured as long as we had not been flooded during the last ten years”whispers the restaurateur.
The professional is therefore no longer insured against flooding. A situation that gives him a pit in his stomach: “We find ourselves trapped, because it will inevitably have an impact on the company’s results. It will generate costs. Even if we were able to reassemble expensive and motorized equipment, we don’t even know if we raised enough. We did what we could and we just have to wait for the good or bad surprise”.
Access to the restaurant is impossible at the moment. Emmanuel Castel will have to wait tomorrow or the day after tomorrow for the water to go down and see the damage: “It’s a bit haphazard.”the latter concludes bitterly.
