In 2010, Carrie Preston played the character of Elsbeth Tascioni for the first time in the series The Good Wife. This bubbly lawyer has made a place for herself in the hearts of fans of the legal series with several appearances over the seven seasons of the fiction. Télé-Loisirs: You played Elsbeth for the first time 14 years ago. What convinced you to reprise your role in this spin-off series?
Carrie Preston : From the moment I played Elsbeth, I knew that I would be ready to play her whenever I was asked because she is a great character. She brings me so much joy, she stimulates me intellectually. The fact that Michelle and Robert King, the creators of The Good Wifewanted to make a series centered on this character is an honor. It was such a surprise when it finally came true. They talked about it for a long time. I could pinch myself! He’s the character of a lifetime.
What was your reaction when they called you to say: “This time it’s good, we’re doing a spin-off” ?
I didn’t believe it until we started filming! And even then, I wondered if this was really happening. You know, I dreamed of something like that. Even though I was very happy with what I did in my life and in my career, I really loved playing this character every time they offered it to me, about once a year or so. Being able to embody it every day, surrounded by such wonderful people, with such a level of writing is very exciting.

We find in episode 1 ofElsbeth Stephen Moyer who you played opposite in the series True Blood. How did your reunion go?
I love Stephen! For this pilot, it was very important to me that they chose someone who was going to be great because, if this first episode is not satisfactory, we don’t have a series afterwards. I kept suggesting Stephen to them. I told them “You know, Stephen just moved to New York, he would be perfect.”. Luckily, they agreed. It was like meeting a very, very, very old friend. We already had this common background so we could be comfortable with each other, we had a lot of fun.
Could you have been a lawyer or even a police officer in life?
Oh my God no! I don’t think I could have done that. These are professions that require a lot of study. But if I had to choose between the two, I think I would prefer to be a lawyer. It’s a job where you also have to put yourself out there.
