The list of potential successors to Justin Trudeau loses a contender. Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc has announced that he will not try his luck in the race for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada (PLC).

“While I am extremely grateful for the encouragement and support I have received from my caucus colleagues and Liberal activists across the country, I have decided not to run in the next election. race for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada,” the minister wrote in a statement on X on Wednesday morning.

His name was circulating behind the scenes in Ottawa, with many seeing him as an ideal candidate to succeed the prime minister. Originally from New Brunswick and perfectly bilingual, Mr. LeBlanc was an ideal choice to respect the tradition of alternation between chefs from Quebec and the rest of Canada.

Liberal MP Joël Lighbound also gave him his support on Tuesday, affirming that the minister “embodies liberal values, without the “woke” aspect”.
