An industrial incident occurred at the Seveso Lat Nitrogen site, located in Grand Quevilly, this Wednesday January 8 around 3 p.m. No injuries were noted.
The Seine-Maritime prefecture indicates that a “temporary fire followed by the release of smoke” took place “during an incident on an ammonia production unit”.
“Sound of an explosion”
During the incident, noise “resembling the sound of an explosion” was heard.
The unit concerned is now shut down and “will only restart following the identification of the origin of the malfunction and safety checks”, continues the prefecture.
“No impact” for local residents
The Grand Quevilly municipal police add, in a communication shared on Facebook, that the smoke and the fire have been brought under control.
A crisis management unit had been mobilized by Borealis, site manager. “There are no injuries or impact for employees, local residents or the environment,” assures the company in a press release.
