Highlights

▪ The start of the dry season has led to an increase in commuting movements between Am Dafock (Central African Republic) and Sudan. Sudanese cross the border to access medical care provided by UNHCR’s partner, International Medical Corps (IMC), participate in the weekly market and carry out various economic activities. These exchanges promote peaceful coexistence between communities. However, counterattacks by Sudanese government forces against Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions could cause an increase in commuting movements towards the CAR, particularly towards Korsi in Birao.

▪ According to the National Commission for Refugees (CNR), some Sudanese do not have the financial means to join Korsi. Some have chosen to stay in Am Dafock, although local authorities have provided aid only for those traveling to Korsi. A meeting with local authorities resulted in the provisional allocation of land to accommodate the 217 people remaining in Am Dafock. Others are still waiting in Sudan, notably in Goba, hoping to join Am Dafock when they have the necessary means to undertake the journey.

▪ In the prefectures of Haute-Kotto and Ouaka, in urban areas, the security situation remains relatively calm thanks to dissuasive patrols by the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) and the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Republic Central African Republic (MINUSCA). However, in peripheral areas and on main roads, the presence of non-state armed groups continues to expose civilians to violence, human rights violations and extortion practices.
