how were the last days of the “Menhir”?

Died on Tuesday January 7 at Garches hospital, in Haiuts-de-Seine, Jean-Marie Le Pen had been weakened for at least many weeks. Indeed, in mid-November, “the Menhir” is hospitalized in Saint-Cloudvery close to his Montretout manor. On November 14, Jean-Marie Le Pen even called a priest, as indicated by information revealed by the newspaper The Parisian. However, he is in break with the Church since he was 16but he feels that the end is near.

The co-founder of the National Front did not not always maintained ideal relationships with the Churchas illustrated by a rather inappropriate episode in his life. In Savoie, in the spring of 1951, Jean-Marie Le Pen, then aged 22, bursts, drunk, into the church Notre-Dame of Aix-les-Bains. He begins to insult the priest who officiates before being arrested by the police. This incident described in general information notes was revealed by the media Les Jours.

A fundamentalist priest chosen at the bedside of the patriarch

Decades later, on November 14, 2024, things changed for the politician. The priest who arrives in his hospital room is traditionalist, not to say fundamentalist. It is about Philippe Laguériedeemed inappropriate, including by part of the Le Pen family. That day, he had an altercation with Yann, Marine Le Pen’s little sister.

Jean-Marie Le Pen will receive three sacraments: absolution, eucharist and extreme unction. He is already very weak, but that day he hums a few Latin songs and hymns. After this visit, Jean-Marie Le Pen will live for almost two more months.

Last difficult moments

The last days will have been the most painful for the patriarch of the Le Pen clan. He is transferred to Garches in a specialized center after the increasing deterioration of his state of health. His friend, former MEP Bruno Gollnisch, visited him just before the New Year, as he told RTL. Jean-Marie Le Pen occasionally recites a poem by Victor Hugo to him, but he hardly sees anymore and hardly hears. Communication is becoming more and more difficult.

His last moments are spent with his familynotably his wife Jany. There largely absent of this farewell, it is obviously his youngest daughter Marine Le Penhaving succeeded him at the head of his party in 2011 and having since renamed it the National Rally.

When her father dies, she is in a plane leaving Mayotte. It was during a technical stopover in Kenya that she was informed of the news by her press officer. A journalist from Mondepresent on board, notes that she isolate himself for a while and describes that she returns to her place while a few tears flow.
