From January 20, the path from Porte-Broc to Annonay will be under construction. Objective: to redo and secure the roads but also to resolve problems linked to sanitation.

It was a campaign promise from the municipal team: to repair Chemin de Porte-Broc. Indeed, “the roads there are degraded and numerous sanitation problems arise in a neighborhood which has become denser over time,” explains Mayor Simon Plénet.

It was during public meetings with local residents that these issues were highlighted. “The costs turned out to be much higher than originally anticipated. The project had therefore been postponed in order to be reviewed so that it was bearable for the municipality,” continues the mayor of Annonay, who specifies that the rainwater and sanitation part is the responsibility of the Agglo, competent in this matter.

Porte-Broc: start of construction on January 20

In detail, a first phase of work will begin on January 20 at the intersection with Avenue Rhin-Danube in order to provide better visibility.

The roadway will take the form of an unmarked central lane with two lanes on the sides, wide enough to allow bicycles to travel in complete safety and vehicles to pass each other. Likewise, sidewalks will be created where the width of the road allows.

Added to this is the creation of a rainwater drain in order to deal with the problem of runoff in this area, which was urbanized in the 60s and 70s on fairly humid grounds. Finally, two landscaped points will be created at the start of the road, in the bend and at the exit of rue Elise-Avenas, as well as secure pedestrian crossings.

A project costing 500,000 euros

The second phase of the project will start on February 3. The street will be closed to traffic, except for local residents. Costed at 500,000 euros, the work must be completed by April 30 at the latest.

Juanita Gardier, deputy in charge of Roads, specifies that “we will be vigilant regarding the speed on this new road. An average speed check will be carried out. The speed remains at 50 km/h, we will see based on measurements and feedback from local residents.”

The deputy also notes “that an unmarked lane makes people more cautious in general. This project, planned from the start of the mandate, is eagerly awaited by local residents, representing around twenty housing units.
