The Liberals will have to act more quickly to choose a leader and send him to the battlefield. By leaving his post so late, Justin Trudeau wasted his party’s most precious resource: time.

Little time for a real race: this could encourage the party to look for the next savior in the immediate environment. In this case, I fear that the party is falling into a terrible trap: finding itself campaigning with the convoluted message of “change in continuity” and “continuity in change”. Soft and slimy.

The population no longer wants to know anything about Justin Trudeau, and it’s more than a matter of personality. Mr. Trudeau was not caught stealing food from Moisson Montréal. It’s really the message and actions of his government that are also being judged.

It is the ever-increasing deficits that are wearing down voters. It’s the obsession diverse which tires voters. Because this obsession has led to a total loss of control over immigration. Because it also led to the creation of this absurd post of Islamophobia commissioner.

Labeled

Choosing a new leader who participated in all of Justin Trudeau’s decisions is like handing opponents the “it’s white hat and white hat” argument on a silver platter. I can already hear Pierre Poilievre hammering home: we change the seller, but the product is the same.

The ministers who supported the budgets of the last nine years, voted for all the laws, supported all the appointments and defended Justin Trudeau against all odds are labeled “Trudeau”. In such a short time, they will have no chance of getting rid of this ball and chain on their ankle. They risk being put through the mill of voters tired of Justin Trudeau.

Mark Carney was less in the Trudeau paint. He has nevertheless acted as an economic advisor in recent times. With limited charisma and no political experience, he would be in danger of being cut to pieces by the formidable Pierre Poilievre.

Only hope

Only one candidate is completely taking the Liberal Party out of Justin Trudeau’s rut: former Prime Minister of British Columbia Christy Clark. She led a Liberal government in her province from 2011 to 2017.

Notably, the Liberal Party in British Columbia is more to the right. Rather than being a cousin of the NDP, he was the direct opponent of the NDP. Which means that rather conservative voters voted for her, so she can compete on Pierre Poilievre’s land.

She has political experience, she was prime minister, she has guts, she has the ability to debate and stand up to Pierre Poilievre. In addition, she respects the powers of the provinces and speaks French. Mme Clark can extract the Liberal Party from the woke, spendthrift left that Justin Trudeau has mired it in.

She is less well known, either. But it perhaps represents the liberals’ only chance.
