Concerning the location, Emile’s funeral will take place in two stages, and in two different places, according to François Balique, mayor of Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), in La Provence.
The funeral should begin with a mass “in the basilica of Sainte Marie-Madeleine in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. This is a town located in the Var department. This basilica is considered to be the most important Gothic style religious building built in Provence.

Following this ceremony at the Sainte Marie-Madeleine basilica, Emile will then be buried in the Haut-Vernet cemetery, a hamlet in the commune of Vernet where the child vanished.
“Since the child died in Vernet, he will rest in Vernet,” the councilor explained to our colleagues. However, and while Emile’s disappearance was widely publicized, the mayor of Vernet wanted the meditation in Haut-Vernet to be “as intimate as possible”.
“We’re not at the show. There is therefore a very good chance that I will issue a municipal decree to block access to Haut-Vernet,” he said, when questioned by our colleagues.
