She was not injured, but Marine Le Pen was on board a barge when it hit another, Tuesday January 7 around 9:30 a.m. local time, according to information from Mayotte on the 1st. (new window) confirmed by the TF1/LCI political department.
An accident linked to the speed of the barge?
The two boats used to transport passengers collided off the coast of Mayotte, although the circumstances are not yet very clear. Coming from Mamoudzou, the capital of the archipelago, the Georges Nahouda, on board of which Marine Le Pen was, would have “sombre” on Chatouilleuse, coming from Dzaoudzi airport. Several other passengers were treated by emergency services. Prefect François-Xavier Bieuville visited the site.
-Marine Le Pen was then preparing to take the plane to return to Paris, at the end of a two-day trip to the island. She escaped the incident unhurt. “The speed was incredible”she told local media. According to her, “It was almost at full power. The speed was incomprehensible considering how far away we were. We were quite close. It could have been worse”.
The archipelago was hit hard by Cyclone Chido on December 14. Marine Le Pen went there to meet the affected residents. She notably estimated that the reconstruction plan planned by the government of François Bayrou “doesn’t go far enough”.
