The founder of the National Front Jean-Marie Le Pen died at 96. A disappearance which did not fail to provoke a reaction from the political class, here are the first reactions.

The death of Jean-Marie Le Pen, at the age of 96, caused a strong reaction from politicians this Tuesday. “I think today with sadness of his family, his loved ones, and of course Marine whose mourning must be respected,” declared the president of the National Rally Jordan Bardella on X. A tribute shared by many parliamentarians of the party .

The vice-president of the RN, Sébastien Chenu, saluted the memory of a “huge patriot, visionary and an incarnation of courage”.

For his part, Eric Zemmour, president of Reconquest, praised “the vision of a man”, but also “his courage, at a time when courageous men were not so numerous”.

“Behind the ties, the same ideology”

Several rebellious elected officials reacted to the tribute paid by Jordan Bardella to Jean-Marie Le Pen. “Le Pen is dead, Bardella takes up the flame (…) Behind the ties, the same far-right ideology which threatens peace and democracy,” considered the rebellious MP Paul Vannier.

The deputy for Val-de- Louis Boyard considered that Jean-Marie Le Pen deserved “no tribute”.

“Respect for the dignity of the dead and the grief of their loved ones does not erase the right to judge their actions. Those of Jean-Marie Le Pen remain unbearable. The fight against man is over. The one against the hatred, racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism that he has spread, continues,” declared the leader of La insoumise Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
