Following the resignation of Justin Trudeau, the MP for Montcalm, Luc Thériault, is urging the Liberal party to choose its new leader as quickly as possible so that he can trigger an election as soon as he takes office.
According to Mr. Thériault, the Prime Minister “made the right decision by leaving office.”
“History will judge Justin Trudeau, but it will be up to Quebecers to judge the record of the Liberal party. Since 2015, we have seen an extraordinarily centralizing government at work, whose interference has been incessant. A government whose only contribution to the fight against global warming was the purchase of a pipeline; a government that has continually opposed Quebec’s choices through its rejection of secularism and its denial of the decline of the French language; a government whose nonchalance in terms of border management and its irresponsible migration policies have had serious consequences on our reception capacity,” he denounced in a press release.
The Bloc member concluded by assuring that he was “ready” for the future as well as recalling that the Bloc Québécois has “several times repeated” that it will vote to “bring down the government as soon as the opportunity presents itself “.
