New attractiveness for Vernon?

Thus, according to the latest figures from INSEE (2022 vintage entered into force on January 1, 2025), Vernon has 25,417 inhabitants compared to 24,543 the previous year (+3.56%) and 24,661 in 2016 (+3. 06%). A trend which allows the municipality to get closer to the figures of 2011 when the city of Vernon had 25,923 souls.

And the mayor of Vernon continued: “Our ambition was clear: preserve Vernon’s identity while making it more attractive. This renewed vitality of our commune is the result in particular of the reconversion of our industrial and military wastelands in favor of economic activity and investment, the modernization and renovation of our town center and the revitalization of our sporting and cultural life. »

Others statistics complete and clarify the profile of the population of Vernon. Thus, the average age of the latter is 40 years. The active population represents 42.1% of Vernonnais, the unemployment rate stands at 6.8%, the average income per year is 20,940 euros. As for the population density, it is 710 inhabitants per km2.

“Attracting new residents means increasing land values, increased economic and commercial life, and a prosperous future for our city. If we want to maintain this still fragile positive development, we must remain vigilant and redouble our efforts,” adds the mayor of Vernon.

Among this picture, several residents, originally from the town or newly settled, point out the parameters that they consider negative and likely to undermine the image of Vernon: the lack of treating doctors, the increase in work in the town center and the lack of trains and punctuality problems of the SNCF between Vernon and .

In other municipalities

In this context where the sector’s locomotive is gaining residents between 2016 and 2022, what about neighboring communities? Few of them have the same dynamic.

La Heunière wins the race, going from 331 inhabitants to 461 (+39.27%) during this period. Note that two new housing estates have been built since 2014 and houses have mushroomed. QED…

Further west, along Departmental 181, Tilly also attracted additional residents between 2016 and 2022. Thirty to be precise (616 against 586, +5.12%).

Three municipalities “limit damage”. Thus, Gasny loses one administrator (3,142 in 2022 against 3,143 in 2016), Heubécourt-Haricourt five (467 against 472) and -Jérôme-Saint-Ouen seven (764 against 771).

For the other cities, over the same period, the trend is downward. Thus, Vexin-sur-Epte has 6,161 inhabitants compared to 6,285 six years before (-1.97%), Saint-Marcel 4,576 compared to 4,713 (-2.90%), La Chapelle-Longueville 3,372 compared to 3,524 (-4.31%). As for Houlbec-Cocherel, there are 1,324 inhabitants compared to 1,379 (-3.98%), in Douains 474 compared to 523 (-9.36%), in Giverny 470 compared to 519 (-9.44%) and in Chambray. 405 against 436 (-7.11%).

In a more global context, in the 2022 census, the Department of Eure has 614,731 inhabitants compared to 620,046 in 2016, a drop of 0.85% in six years.

As for , the same downward trend. Between 2016 and 2022, the region loses 12,556 inhabitants, going from 3,420,995 to 3,408,739 (-0.35%).
