This is no longer really a surprise, since we were waiting for the official announcement of these new AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D processors. As a reminder, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D was launched at the beginning of November and kept all its promises as confirmed by our test. While the Ryzen 7 9800X3D only had a single CCD containing the 8 cores et 16 threadsthese new processors will have two CCDs in order to accommodate the 12 cores et 24 threads of the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the 16 cores et 32 threads, you Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
Second generation AMD 3D V-cache:
The essential element of this series of “X3D” processors is the presence of the second generation of AMD 3D V-cache technology. Despite the presence of two CCDs for these two new processors, AMD 3D V-cache will only be integrated on one of the two CCDs. But, as with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, this one has been placed below and no longer above the processor cores. Therefore, the main heat source, the “Zen 5” cores, is directly taken care of by your cooling solution. The 3D V-cache memory is less sensitive to temperature than the processor cores, which is a considerable development for this second generation. Thanks to cooler temperatures, it is possible to maintain task operating frequencies singlethread or multithread higher than with the previous generation Ryzen X3D.

Regarding the quantity of this V-cache, it was 104 MB for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and it will be 140 MB for the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 144 MB for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
-Frequencies on the rise:
As with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, operating frequencies are on the rise. Still comparing with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the Boost frequency can reach 5.2 GHz with a TDP of 120 watts. As for the Ryzen 9 9900X3D, it will be 5.5 GHz for the Boost and a TDP of 120 watts, which is very interesting. The TDP increases to 170 watts for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D but its Boost frequency can reach 5.7 GHz.
And in terms of performance?
Based on the slides from AMD, we can argue that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is more efficient on average by 8%, in the part gaming, than the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. Things are improving with Intel’s latest processor, the Core Ultra 9 285K, since AMD announces an average gain of almost 20% over 40 games tested.
Regarding application tasks, the differences, on 20 software tested, are 13% compared to the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 10% compared to the Core Ultra 9 9950X3D.
At the time of posting these briefs, we did not yet have information regarding the prices or availability of these AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
