-The Consumer Protection Office (OPC) can now impose immediate financial sanctions on merchants who do not comply with the Consumer Protection Act. These sanctions, similar to fines, could reach $3,500 per day depending on the errors observed.
-
The OPC will be able to act quickly in the event of misleading practices, for example:
- Hidden fees and inflated prices
- Non-compliant contracts
- False advertising
- Planned obsolescence
- Lack of operating permit
-
Immediate action

These sanctions aim to accelerate the implementation and effectiveness of the penalties already provided for in the law by avoiding lengthy legal proceedings which can extend over several years.

Dealers in the crosshairs
The automotive sector is particularly targeted since it is the source of the majority of complaints filed each year. In 2024, more than 40% of OPC criminal proceedings against traders concerned fraud linked to the sale of vehicles.
