Gerhard Pfister will leave the presidency of the Center this summer

“I consider that it is time to pass the torch, it is the right time to give way to the new generation.” Gerhard Pfister, president of the Christian Democratic Party since 2016 and then of the Center from 2021, will leave office this summer, his party announced Monday at midday. He has also been a national councilor and representative of the canton of Zug since 2003, but he will retain this position, he assures, since he was re-elected for four years in 2023.

The election of a new party president is planned during the Assembly of Delegates on June 28. A question therefore arises: is Gerhard Pfister preparing a candidacy to succeed Federal Councilor Viola Amherd, the day she chooses to leave the government, while rumors have circulated on several occasions about the imminence of an announcement from Haut-Valaisanne? Gerhard Pfister leaves the presidency of his party with results that he considers positive.
