Fire in Plessisville: a young man suffers burns

A young man suffered burns late Saturday evening while trying to light the stove at the family home on Avenue Taschereau in Plessisville.

Firefighters from the L’Érable Regional Fire Safety Service (SSIRÉ) received the emergency call at 11:30 p.m. “It all started when a young man was busy relighting the stove in the basement using a liquid. It ignited and the young man’s clothes caught fire. Subsequently, the flames spread to the residence,” said the director of SSIRÉ, Éric Boucher.

The young man suffered second-degree burns on parts of his body. Paramedics transported him to the hospital.

Eighteen firefighters, led by platoon leader Guillaume Brisson, were mobilized for the intervention.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters carried out a transitional attack from the outside, which then allowed them to enter the residence. “They managed to quickly extinguish the fire, but the damage was significant,” underlined the director of SSIRÉ.

The damages summarily amount to several tens of thousands of dollars.

The intervention, which lasted a few hours, ended around 4 a.m.
