Here is the latest news in NHL news!
Forward Frank Vatrano has chosen to join the Ducks for the next three seasons. Vatrano became an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025 and several trade rumors sent him elsewhere at the trade deadline. The New York Rangers were particularly interested in his services. There were even attempts to integrate it into the Jacob Trouba transaction according to numerous sources. Interesting fact: this will be his 4th three-season contract for him including his entry contract. The agreement between the Ducks and Frank Vatrano is reminiscent of Shohei Ohtani’s contract in the MLB, with a few million less! Indeed, Vatrano’s next contract will be constructed as follows according to information from Pierre LeBrun:
- 3 ans / 18M$
- $4.57M per year (on the mass) instead of $6M
- $9M in payment after the expiration of his contract (deffered money)
The $9M in deferred salary will be paid to Vatrano for 10 years after the expiration of this contract with the Ducks. Thus, Vatrano will receive $900,000 per year for 10 years from the Ducks from 2025 to 2035. With such an agreement, the Ducks save on payroll and Vatrano will receive a guaranteed salary for 10 years. According to Pierre LeBrun, Vatrano plans to live outside California to avoid that state’s highly taxed system. A contract good for both sides!
Arthur Kaliyev on waivers
Will the former second-round pick be claimed off waivers from the NHL? Teams have until 2 p.m. tomorrow to decide if Arthur Kaliyev fits a need within their roster. For several seasons, the Russian striker has been looking for himself in the Kings’ hierarchy. The lack of progression in his game remains a big issue in projecting him into a role. This season, he only played in the AHL (2 points in 5 games) without participating in a single game in the NHL. Although he had success in the AHL in his debut in 2020-2021, Arthur Kaliyev failed to establish himself in an NHL role.
-Linus Ullmark: a prolonged absence
Very bad news for the Ottawa Senators who will be without their goalkeeper for a few more weeks. Indeed, the organization announced that Linus Ullmark will be evaluated from week to week due to an injury suffered in his last game. We remember that he had not completed his last meeting and it was mentioned that “he had got something stuck.” In the footage, he did not appear to have been unduly inconvenienced. It is only afterwards that we will understand that the injury remains serious. Since then, he has not skated again and will be sidelined for a few weeks.
It’s a shame, because the Swedish goalkeeper had some very good moments for the Sens. In his last ten starts, Ullmark fully justified his acquisition to take on the position of number one goalie in Ottawa. This season, he has an average of 2.38 as well as an efficiency of 0.915.
