Thibaut Courtois, like central defender Antonio Rüdiger, is not in Real Madrid’s squad for Monday’s match against fourth division side Deportiva Minera in the third round of the Spanish Cup. The Madrid club announced this decision on Sunday.
“Courtois and Rüdiger will not travel, but all other players are available“, explained coach Carlo Ancelotti the day before the match. “We played recently, and some players are tired. I want to take this opportunity to give playtime to others.”
Friday evening, Real Madrid made a spectacular comeback at the very end of the match to win 1-2 in Valencia. With this victory, the Madrilenians remain at the top of La Liga with 43 points from 19 games, although Atlético, second with a game in hand, is only two points behind.
