Heir to the Hero 12 Black, from which it borrows many features, the GoPro Hero 13 Black was unveiled last September and is aimed at the most seasoned action cam users. Currently, it can be found at 289 euros instead of 449 euros on AliExpress.
The GoPro Hero 13 Black succeeded the very good GoPro Hero 12 Black last year, a model from which it takes a large number of features, but fortunately, several improvements have been made by the manufacturer. Even if for the most part, you have to go back to checkout since the new lenses and filters are not provided… Apart from that, the GoPro Hero 13 Black should suit all action camera pros, especially those who have a fairly tight budget: in fact, its price has just dropped considerably.

The worthy successor to the GoPro Hero 12 Black
You don’t change a winning team. This is what GoPro surely said when designing its Hero 13 Black action camera, the design of which is generally unchanged compared to the previous model, the Hero 12 Black. Same dimensions, almost the same weight (159 g compared to 154 g for the Hero 12 Black), same water resistance to 10 meters, same 1.4-inch front screen (still not touchscreen…) and same 2.27-inch second screen ( but tactile!). Even the 27-megapixel sensor with an 8:7 ratio, with the possibility of cropping in post-production, is identical.
The Hero 13 Black still benefited from some new features, the main one being its new fixing system. This GoPro has in fact switched to magnetic attachment, much more practical than the traditional screwing. Too bad the brand didn’t make the effort to include at least one compatible support in the box… Otherwise, the two other fixing systems (rods and 1/4-20 thread) are still there.
-Beautiful images and still excellent stabilization
On the video side, the GoPro Hero 13 Black allows us to shoot sequences in 5.3K at 60 fps or in 4K at 120 fps. HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization also makes a return, but note that the basic stabilization offered by the GoPro is already excellent. Fans of the brand will also be able to find the famous “HyperView” and “SuperView” fields of vision, which allow image capture in 16:9 format, without changing the camera settings. A 156° field of view in full 8:7 format is even available, and available in 5.3K or 4K. The GPS chip has also been reinstated to display the telemetry data from its video on its final edit. Really good news.
GoPro has also made progress on the professional side of its camera by adding the HLG HDR format, which offers much more detailed images and more vivid colors, thanks to an extension of the dynamic range. Let’s also mention another big new feature in this Hero 13 Black: the “Burst Slow Motion” function, which allows you to film slow motion videos in 5.3K at 120 fps or in HD at 400 fps. In addition, be aware that many additional interchangeable lenses have been designed by the brand, as well as ND filters, but again, they are sold separately… Finally, in terms of autonomy, the GoPro Hero 13 Black, whose battery is larger than that of its predecessor, lasts 77 minutes in 5.3K at 60 fps compared to 72 minutes for the Hero 12 Black, and 161 minutes compared to 149 minutes in 1080p at 30 fps.
